Mid Lane picks up a comfort-food anchor

Matt Brice started Federal Grill in 2013, and this is not a first-time gamble. The group already runs locations on Shepherd, in Hedwig Village, in Katy, in The Woodlands, and downtown, and Federal Grill is known for a whiskey list of more than 500 selections, including exclusive barrel picks. For a River Oaks resident, that whiskey list is the operational detail that matters. It means the Mid Lane location is a dinner destination that also functions as a place to sit at the bar on a Tuesday and order one thoughtful pour.

The team is not a rookie roster. Executive chef Carlos Andrade comes from The Rouxpour and Brennan's of Houston, and general manager Shaun Stockton comes from Turner's and Vic & Anthony's.
Read that lineup against the address. Post Oak Parkway between 610 and Westheimer has been overwhelmingly office and retail. A landscaped-patio steakhouse with three private dining rooms is the kind of ground-floor tenant that makes a tower feel like a neighborhood, not a commuter destination. The design references are specifically local. The reimagined Cartier boutique gives a nod to the Astrodome's iconic roof and circular profile, and Van Cleef & Arpels in River Oaks District is the first U.S. boutique façade adorned with three-dimensional ceramic diamonds.
The duo join Harry Winston and de Boulle as well as Hermès and Dior with in-house jewelry collections in one walkable stretch. The District itself gives you a repeatable weekend. The property sits on 18 acres with over 300,000 square feet of retail, dining, entertainment, luxury apartments, and boutique offices, and it holds more than 60 international luxury flagship brands, bespoke lifestyle boutiques, and specialty retailers in an open-air walkable environment.
For residents, that open-air layout is the practical asset.
